Wheat...West coast white wheat bids held to a fairly narrow range most
of the week, while red wheats saw firming basis levels against generally
higher futures. PNW wheat bid structures continue to reflect only modest
carries into November, flattening beyond that in respect to the scheduled
4-month closure of the river system.
Weekly Sales...USDA numbers revealed another solid week of demand for
US milling wheats, as red winters and springs led the charge. Total sales
of 38 mb showed red winter and red spring each registering nearly 15 mb in
new business. Year-to-date spring wheat sales of 132 mb stand 88% better
than a year ago; red winter sales of 238 mb are up 111%. White wheat sales
were up 1.2 mb from last week to 5 mb, putting the year-to-date total at
85 mb and 29% better than a year ago.
Barley...A steady rally in corn futures and recent export interest have
spurred west coast barley bids to the best levels in nearly 3 years. USDA
reports 2.8 mb in export demand, with half that total yet to ship.
